I'm a photographer based in North Wales, in easy reach of Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.
My 'specialisms' are event and music photography, where I've learned to unobtrusively grab the moment. My music photography has been featured in publications ranging from DrownedInSound.com to The Independent newspaper. I'm comfortable with indoor and outdoor work. I'm currently undertaking client briefs to illustrate business websites and reports and having loads of fun photographing bands.

I was recently asked to produce location shots in Wrexham and Anglesey. These were to set the scene for a report into some great work carried out by the Community Foundation In Wales. An essential part of the work was to photograph community projects in action. This was fabulous to undertake - partly because it was fun, but mainly to see how much the local people were getting out of the facilities. I'm not going to reproduce them here as they were photographed on the understanding it was for an internal report, but if you'd like to see examples, give me a shout All photos taken by Mike Hughes, and reproduced here with kind permission of http://www.cfiw.org.uk/
Growing out of my live music work, I have found myself covering more and more formal and informal events.
This photo is from a recent evening for the High Sheriff of Clwyd Community Awards, on 8th March 2013
The rest of the evening's photos are here
These older photos were of artist Peter Saville, Joy Division / New Order drummer Stephen Morris and author Jon Savage at a question night and book signing at Rough Trade East, Brick Lane...
This was work undertaken for the innovative new business http://www.bookofyou.co.uk/
The idea behind the company is for their customers to collaborate online to produce a book - it starts out web based but then is turned into a bound, high quality physical book - which encapsulates a person's or a family's memories. It's a great idea, and apparently so far boasts "very satisfied" customers. Think of it as personalised and high-end take on 'This Is Your Life'
The photo brief was to show web and paper coming together, and particularly the way that different parts of the family, in different places, could get involved in this exciting way.
There was a constraint of photo size due to their own web design, and paradoxically, this really added some interest to the photoshoots.

This next shot is Johnny Marr at Parklife Weekender in Manchester. Great moment to capture.

The next one is the bounce rapper Big Freedia playing in an alley at South By South West music festival in Texas. With all the fuss about Miley Cyrus and 'twerking', these guys are the originals whose style Miley appropriated. Shot in March 2012
